Living in US/Working in Canada

Post Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:22 pm

I am a university student, living in Canada and have lived in the same province/city my whole life. I recently was admitted to do an internship program for 4 months in the US. I am trying to decide if I should accept the offer, and the main thing that I am concerned about is my employment situation.

I have been at my current job for 4 years in a job with relatively high turnover. Since I have been employed for this length of time I've been able to increase seniority and benefits. Resigning from my position in Canada is not an option.

Is it possible to be an intern in the US during the week and fly home on the weekends to work at my job in Canada? I would need to return to Canada 13 times over a 4 month period. Is this possible? Is it going to be difficult to do? What problems might I run into?

Just checking.

There is nothing stopping you legally t okeep working in canada while doing your internship. It will be a logistical nightmare. Wouldn't it be better just to take a leave of absence?

Just don't be tempted to do any work from your loacation in US for your other job, as this would be illegal.

I work at a recreation facility, so it would be impossible to work at my Canadian job from the US. I'm just mostly concerned about going back and forth over the border so frequently.
