We signed up with Vonnage too, because our local carrier here is Verizon and charged an additional $0.05 a minute to Canada, we have a spotty internet connection at times (high speed wireless), so it can cut up, but for the most part it is managable for the $30 a month we pay for everything (long distance, voice mail, 3 way call, call waiting etc.)

The other nice thing is you can check your voicemail over the internet at the vonnage site, and they send me a .wav file of the message to my email when we get a voicemail, so when i am at work I get an email when we get message at home.

Another Vonage fan. - I am "transporting" my account from Toronto to North Carolina. I can keep my old phone number if I want. - Their customer service is, in my opinion, head and shoulders above many other options.

Verizon has a pretty good bundle that includes your local phone, all long distance in Canada and the US, and your high speed internet for a reasonable cost.

I have high speed cable internet and to that I have added Comwave for VOIP phone for which I pay $ 9.95 per month which gives me local calls with caller ID, hold etc. For long distance, the rates are very reasonable, 2.9 cents for US/Canada and around 5 cents for Europe and 7 cents for Asia.

When I move to US, the rates are similar and I plan to continue with them.

a friend of mine in South Carolina recently told me about Magic Jack. I've also seen a couple of ads on TV. If you have high speed internet, its probably the cheapest "phone" service you'll find anywhere.

But now for the life of me I can't find the link she sent me. I guess just Google "magic jack" and have a look for yourself.
