"Long-form" birth certificate - which one? Advice please:-)

Post Mon Mar 09, 2009 3:17 pm

I tried searching this but couldn't find it...though surely it's been discussed before :?
If it has, I apologize...and maybe someone can point me to the right thread?

In any case, I need to submit a "long-form" birth certificate along with the I-130...

I'm in British Columbia and the provincial government offers two types of "longer" form birth certificates...
One includes my name, date of birth, place of birth, sex and parent(s) name and birthplace.

The other is a "Certified Copy of Birth Registration"... which is a copy of the original birth registration completed at the time of birth. (so, has all the above info but is actually a copy of the form my parents filled out years ago...)

If they just need a BC with my parents' info, I think the first option should suffice....
(which would be great, b/c the second option is considerabley more expensive...)

Any advice would be appreciated:-)
Thanks!

My son is a Canadian born 1974 in Ecuador. He does not have Ecuadorian citizenship. He is thinking about getting Mexican citizenship. For this he needs a long form birth certificate. He has a Canadian certificate of birth abroad and a Canadian passport. How does he get a long form birth certificate. Have tried phoning and writing the sites that come up with this search but none have the answer. Very hard to get a real person on any of the government phone lines to do with this kind of thing.

He can only get a birth certificate in ecuador.

as an aside, your son is probably an ecuadorian citizen by birth. he may simply not have claimed it yet.
