Looking for a guide /partner in China

I am travelling to China for a week or so in the first part of july and I really dont know what to expect.....i want to see Beijing but also giant pandaas and other things...looking for a travelling partner...dont really want to just stick with the group ..would like to go off beaten path...any suggestions? anyone travelling then?

China is a great a vast country. Make sure you check out the country side as well and not stick to the cities like Shanghai.
