Looking for advice

Post Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:47 am

I maybe posting in the wrong forums,if I am I apoligize.
I am a Canadian Citizen engaged to a man from Texas. We have been dating for 2 years and he would come here for 2 weeks at a time and a few months later I would do the same,so its not been easy.Back in Oct of last year we decided he was going to leave his job and move to Canada. We thought that all he had to do was get a work visa and a job offer when he got here,This wasn't going to be a problem since my family owns about 12 buisnesses here in Nova Scotia. We did not know however that he was need the job to be something he was specialized in and being on Cape Breton Island there is only one place he could apply and they were not hiring. When we came across the border on Oct 9th they gave him a 2 month visitors visa instead of 6 but we applied for an extension before it was up.Finally it came back denied on March 4th so he flew back.So now I am wondering what I can do.We are not married or Common Law so I don't know how I would sponsor him.Any advice would help greatly.

This probably belongs in the Canadians in Canada section, but you can sponsor him for PR as a conjugal partner. This means that you are in a committed relationship but you cannot be physically together because of some barrier (in your case, an immigration barrier). For more information on this process, visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/ ... p#conjugal

Conjugal partner sponsorship is *really* difficult to do though for Can/Am couples. Easier and quicker to just suck it up and get married and over with really.

For immigration to Canada info, see http://roadtocanada.com
