My wife and I are planning a trip to the UK with our two children and we are hoping to include a one or two week home-stay in a small town or on a farm. At the time of our trip our children will be 9 and 11. I've tried Google searches, but hotel-like accommodations are the only sites that seem to come up.

If anyone has any tips that might point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Try to use the terms "cottage" or "holiday-let" - that might help your search results. Are there any areas you particularly want to stay in?

Thanks for the tip Mari-mac and the quick reply. As far as location we were thinking Scotland but we are not set on any particular location.

I've just booked a holiday cottage in Scotland and I used this website:
http://www.unique-cottages.co.uk/

There are also National Trust holiday cottages:
http://www.ntsholidays.com/

If you wanted to go to Wales, the Gower peninsula is beautiful - this is a B&B I've stayed in:
http://www.llethrydfarm.co.uk/index.html
It's not a cottage, but you do get your own apartment (so your own space) and is suitable for families

And a B&B that I've stayed in Somerset:
http://www.gantsmill.co.uk/index2.htm
It's on a farm, with working water mill, sheep, lots of things for children - and there is a cottage that you can rent, rather than staying in the B&B part.

Mari-mac, your tip on the terms "cottage" or "holiday-let" were very helpful. Thanks for the links in your latest post; I'll be sure to bookmark them.
