Looking for info about Cairns

Hi all.
We are from Saskatchewan and have been in Brisbane for just a little over two years now and are looking to transfer to Cairns.

We have two girls, 12 and 9 and dont know a thing about Cairns.
I will get info from work but are looking for some ideas based on a Canuck perspective.
Any suggestions on where in the city we should live?
Which schools would be good for the girls?
What about Canadian clubs or gatherings in the area?
How about tourism geared for Canadians?

Culture shock is pretty much gone now but it's still an adventure.
