Looking to move to a European country permanently

Hi!

My partner and I would love to live in a European country (Austria, France, Scotland, Germany, Nordic countries etc.)

What we need to know is, what is the process? Or can someone direct me to a place so I can retrieve the information I need in order to move there? I understand you can generally work for a year, but we'd like to do several years, and possibly stay permanently.

I know most countries have a mandatory period of time in which you must live there in order to get perm. status, does anyone know this process!

Any information would be helpful, it's all very convoluted.
