Looking to move to Australia in September

Post Mon Apr 27, 2009 2:55 pm

Hello all,

My friend and I are looking into moving to Australia this September. We'll probably go the route of a Working Holiday visa and just live and work in one place for the year. We're having a hard time deciding which city we would like to live in. We're both 21 and love meeting people, we enjoy beaches, the outdoors in general and occasionally the bar/pub scene. Rent cost would be a factor, because we'd be on the WHV so we obviously wouldn't be expecting a high end job or long term career. Any help from someone who knows Australia well would be very helpful! Thanks.

When I lived in Sydney I met a lot of backpackers who arrived in Sydney, caught the cab straight to Bondi beach and lived in a backpackers hostel for a week or two. They would then get together with a couple of people and all rent a house or apartment together.

Sydney is a great start because you will meet people who might want to travel with you and because it's such a big city your chances of finding employment might be better. I am from Australia and have married a Canadian so if you need any advice on Australia feel free to ask, we bought a Kombi van and traveled from Sydney to Cairns and back when we first met so I have a little bit of backpacking experience in Aus!

Hope I am doing this right it is my first time on this site. Why not look at Adelaide, there are a lot of Canadians moving here at the moment. The cost of living and the housing cost is much less, and it is a much easier city to move around than most of the other capitals. Let me know if you need any other info. You can pull up South Autralian Tourist Commission to get an idea of what it is like here. We have great beaches, and most places are within at hour of the beach, most of them much less. Hope this helps.
