Lost job on H-1B ... now what?

Last year my employer switched me from TN status to H-1B, so I have two years remaining on my initial H-1B period. I am concerned that I may soon be fired or laid off. Should this happen, what is my best course of action assuming I would like to find another job in the US?

I work in IT and could probably find a new job within 60 days, though with the present economy nothing is certain.

Would love some advice regarding remaining in US vs returning to Canada, adjustment of status if required, transferability of the H-1B to a new employer, etc.

Concern validated. Found out today that I will be laid off. Any tips about when I should return to Canada vs remaining in US to job hunt are appreciated.
