Marriage in Europe

Post Wed Nov 16, 2011 2:07 pm

Hi again everyone,

My German Finance & I want to be married soon, but we're asking around what are the better EU Countries to get married in where: 1.) the 'legal stuff' takes the shortest time, and, 2.) where we need the lease amount of personal paperwork. Also, where should be definitely not get married in (e.g.; I heard if we married in nearby France I would have to leave for a long time to go to N. America to file for a Marriage Visa there, and I would certainly loose my job).

Someone mentioned Denmark is the best place to marry but Denmark is currently disobeying EU Law by stopping & checking everyone's Passport who goes in/out of there, even EU Citizens are stopped & thoroughly checked. My Passport is with our local City Hall and my new Visa is not stamped in it yet because there is a new (insurmountable?) problem with my Work Permit - so [I] apparently cannot travel to Denmark for that reason. Going to N. America is no option for me as I have not lived there in a very long time & have no family there either.

Does someone know the procedure to be married in Switzerland or Germany for example?

We would greatly appreciate anyone's true & accurate advice.

Thanks to all! :D

Portugal seems pretty good and easy to get married in.
Because I'm a wedding photographer, I know planners down there too which could help you perhaps?

Portugal may not be quite that easy either - but, depends on your situation, if you have all of your ID & what you are trying to achieve

the following link should help answer some of your questions.

http://lisbon.angloinfo.com/countries/p ... rriage.asp

The 30 day residency rule may be necessary, as is the certificate of no-impediment.

You'll need current valid ID, passport, birth certificate etc (read the details within the links on this page) there are no short cuts within the EU.

If he is German & you are living there (or are you living somewhere else), why not just get married in Germany?

see the relative info in the following link for getting married in Germany

http://berlin.angloinfo.com/countries/g ... rriage.asp

A simple google on any country by typing in 'getting married in xyz country' may further help you

Switzerland as follows

http://geneva.angloinfo.com/countries/s ... rriage.asp

Good luck to you both
