Marriage in Germany!

Post Wed Nov 16, 2011 2:05 pm

Hi everyone,

My German Finance & I want to be married soon (somewhere here in Europe), but we're asking around what are the better EU Countries to get married in where: 1.) the 'legal stuff' takes the shortest time, and, 2.) where we need the lease amount of personal paperwork. Also, where should be definitely not get married in (e.g.; I heard if we married in nearby France I would have to leave for a long time to go to N. America to file for a Marriage Visa there, and I would certainly loose my job).

Someone mentioned Denmark is the best place to marry but Denmark is currently disobeying EU Law by stopping & checking everyone's Passport who goes in/out of there, even EU Citizens are stopped & thoroughly checked. My Passport is with our local City Hall and my new Visa is not stamped in it yet because there is a new (insurmountable?) problem with my Work Permit - so [I] apparently cannot travel to Denmark for that reason. Going to N. America is no option for me as I have not lived there in a very long time & have no family there either.

Does someone know the procedure to be married in Switzerland or Germany for example?

We would greatly appreciate anyone's true & accurate advice.

Thanks to all! :D

FEES. A registrar’s fee of approx. Sixty Five Euro needs to be paid at the time you turn all the assembled documents. If the wedding takes place in another Town Hall than the one where you are registering, you will have to pay the registrar’s fee twice. Additionally there is a court fee charged by the Higher Regional Court in Bamberg.

According to Article 14 of the SOFA Supplementary Agreement the court fees for the exemption from the production of a certificate of eligibility to marry ('Befreiung vomEhefiihigkeitSZeugnis') shall not exceed DM 50.

The court fee can be paid at the Higher Regional Court, at any German bank or the German Post Office. In the latter cases you have to show the receipt (“Quittung”) to the registrar as proof of payment.

Wow, thanks so much for your great reply!

But do you or anyone else know what other EU Countries are easier than Germany to be married in (besides Denmark)?

Thanks again!

read the link below where I posted to your other question "Marriage in Europe", see the last post from me in that link

There is nowhere "easy", you still need to have full ID, passport, birth certficate, certificate of no-impediment & time in that country, at least 30-days in most cases

Based on what you'e told us about your situation, Germany may be your best bet given you have a German fiance - the way that I read it
