Married in US without a K1 visa

I'm getting stressed out as I just found out that I needed a k1 visa before we got married in the U.S. I did not know my wife needed to get a visa before we got married here. What do I do? Is she going to get denied. I'm reading through The USCIS and it says you need a k1 to get married. Is my marriage even legal? I need help fast please and thank you. What steps do we take from here?
