Hi there,
My fiancee and I are planning on tying the knot the first week of September 2011. I am a Canadian citizen and she is a UK citizen. I plan on flying there middle of August (her family will be taking care of preparations) get married, then leave the following week back to Canada (where I live and work). She will then join me, several months later, in Canada where we are planning on leading the rest of our lives. Although I am in Canada with a full-time permanent job, I still own a UK YMS visa that expires June 2012. I will be going there round-trip. We have been together (long-distance) for close to 3 years, with me having to fly back and forth.
My questions:
- What do I need to enter UK to get married?
- Do I need to switch my YMS visa to another visa?
- Can I "cancel" my YMS visa?
- What do I need to provide to the Home Office and Registrar to get married/obtain a marriage license?
- Do I need to inform anyone that I do not intend on staying in UK?
- What needs to be done when she has to come to Canada (documents/visas)?
- What exactly is a settlement visa? Do I even NEED a settlement visa when I do not intend to stay in the UK at all?
I would appreciate if I get all this answered as soon as possible, so that I can go ahead and finish everything off as it's only 5 months away and I need to inform my workplace as well.
Thank you.
