Marrying An American and working in the US

Post Sat Oct 30, 2010 2:36 pm

Hello,

I'm wondering if I apply for a TN Visa as a professional with a Bachelor's degree, and have a job before I enter the United States, what is the process for getting married and staying to work in the United States?

I would like to live with my boyfriend before getting married. Can I apply for a marriage license and marry him within the US while still working with the TN Visa? After the marriage, do I need to apply for a different type of VISA, or can I still work with my TN Visa? At any point will I have to stop working for a period of time to be approved for another visa/ become a citizen of America?

With a fiancee Visa, could I have a job lined up before moving to the United States?

Thanks!

the key to keep your TN active while oin the process of marrying is to marry, honeymoon, and stay put in US the ENTIRE time, until you get an EAD and AP (after filing I-130/I-765/I-131/I-485). Then you simply switch to EAD to work and AP to travel, until you get GC.

Visajourney.cocan lead you thru the Grren card process, but with the TN twist, you need to really really stay in US for those 3-4 months, or it will all (the TN, your GC process, etc) go up in smoke.
