Hello,
I've searched old posts but can't quite find the answer to my question. Here it is:
- I am working for a Canadian company, but they have me based year-round at their sister plant in Michigan on a TN visa. I currently submit a 1040NR to the U.S. and a regular T1 to Canada. I pay full EI deductions. The company that pays my salary is the Canadian one, not the U.S. one where I'm working.
- If I were to marry my U.S. boyfriend, and become a U.S. resident - green card holder (and I know that is complicated in itself, I've checked it out on Visa Journey)... would I be eligible for Canadian maternity benefits (EI) since I'm still employed by a Canadian company and paying EI? Or would it be impossible for me to continue paying into Canadian EI since I, as a US resident, would then be forced to submit 1040s instead of 1040NRs?
Thanks in advance!
