Interesting analogy. However have you considered that many of us have met some of the aliens?

Perhaps you should consider that fact that no one has suggested that this is a good idea, apart from yourself.

We have nothing to gain by deterring you.
well, i figured you all might understand this but you dont. Your just seeing the spaceships death ray, not its aliens. Its ok though, its life and life only.
Hang on......Don't understand what? What don't we get? We get that you want to leave, we get that you want to travel--we all did too, which is why we left and why we're still out.

To go out into the world with a mere 3,000 bucks (which won't get you far anywhere), and expect to find a job that will actually pay you something, without any credentials to hold up against competition, you don't stand a chance. Unless you just want to go to some place like Palau, sit on the beach and drop off the face of the earth........and not make enough money really to survive in anything but a public beach, let alone afford a hut to stay in....I don't know what we don't understand.

You've said your unhappy where you are and you want to leave. It's like enlisting in the army and not admitting that war is something that you might have to engage in. It's like getting yourself to the top of the ski mountain without any skis. It's not going to be easy for you to get off a plane and find something to do with no training, no skills, no credentials..unless, as I suggested you just become a beach bum, or city steet person....

So if you go, go knowing that it will not be easy, and in fact, depending on where you go, it can be downright difficult. Most of us on the board here that are abroad have backpacked penniless....but most of us were graduates and most of us, if not all of us, were not minors.

The other thing you need to know is that if you are travelling for long term, you should be aware of visit/work/residence visa permit legalities for each place you're going; if you overstay your visa somewhere, and try to leave, you can end up in immigration detention.

I don't want to scare you, but it seems that either we have no idea what you're on about, or you're not really entertaining the realities of what if means to leave your country and try to live somewhere else.....it's more complicated than you think.....just give it some serious thought before you do anything drastic, okay?

This is sad really. Finish your schooling. You will have completed and accomplished something - and that year off travelling will add more to your life too. Once you get back - you can make a decision about what and where you want to go. But if you want to work overseas and earn your way - you HAVE to have a basic education. If you feel at odds, talk to a teacher you do respect and get the support you need to pull you through. one or two years is not that long.

Another note - customs and police world wide would question why a young, under age (18 as a minimum is 'legal') individual is out on the their own. As well, how do you expect to support yourself? Travelling is very expensive. And so an education and savings will set you on your way! To help you plan - start gathering guidebooks, read up on the places you want to go to - some of this may even help your classes (history...geography...).

Spaceout, you asked for advice and opinions and we're giving it. I suggest you take it and use it to help you make your own decision. These are people that know what they're talking about.

While we understand the want / need to travel, we've also been there done that and know it's not as easy as just picking up and going.
