money

Post Thu Jun 01, 2006 8:14 pm

I'm sure this has been written by many people before me, but since I'm kinda new here I was just wondering. I was thinking of relocating to the UK for a few years around October. Are there any rules as to money that you should have in your bank account. I've been told Canadians going to Australia would need something to the tune of $4000 in their bank account before they could go, but I was just wondering if the same thing applies to the UK? I have been searching so many websites and have come up with nothing.
I was also wondering what would be a good city to move to? I was looking at Newcastle or Manchester, or London, really I guess anything would be alright, I'm still in the planning stages. But I guess before I do anything I need to know what kind of money I will have to have or to bring with me. If anyone could help me I would be really happy.
thank you

well what kind of Visa are you trying to get? I came here on a working holiday visa and I had to have $2500 in my bank account.I don't know if this is different for other Visas. But it might help you a bit.

If I can still get a UK ancestry Visa that is the one I will be applying for. I did read the thread that they were thinking of taking it away, but so far all the sites I have found have still been mentioning that you can get one. So if I can't get a UK ancestry Visa then I would be applying for a work Visa.

By all means, go for the ancestry visa. Four years of "unattached" right to work, and relatively easy to remain after the four years are up.

Yes, they're likely to get rid of it, but not until 2007, most likely in the autumn. Don't wait too late! :D

Oh thank you so much, that's awesome. I should apply soon, I read that they can date it three months ahead of time so that way I can leave when I'm ready. Now I just need to find myself a job.
