Monthly Costs of Living in the UK

Post Wed Jan 03, 2007 2:46 pm

Hey guys

I needed some advice on living purposes in the uk. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the breakdown for monthly costs would be in middlesex england(ie hayes southall) would cost. I have been looking at some places and there not half bad prices. Ive seen good places for 495,to 525, pounds of course. I did have a roomie but it doesnt seem like its gonna work out so it would me alone in a place. I have enough money to pay of a place for two months. I was wondering though if anyone can breakdown the costs for a place for a one month period. Assuming the rent is between 495- 525 pounds and bills included in those prices of course. So things like bus pass fare, food what am i looking at for monthly costs. I will be getting a job when i get there so assuming on a budget of just say minimum wage to say the least.

Also those agencies never get back to you ive emailed those real estate agents over and over and they never get back to you. so whats the best thing to do for looking for a place. and what r the best websites for looking at places, i got findaproperty, gumtree and rightmove. ANything else would be helpful or any tips on renting out a place while sitting in canada would be great to.

thanx

Hi BCgirl,

I don't live in the area you are looking for , I live in the North-West. I can help you by giving you an idea on some of the costs.

I would suggest that you rent a room or share a place with someone at first (to build your credit score and to have references). It will be VERY difficult for you to find a place on your own. When I rented my first flat here, I had to give one month deposit (that I only got back when I left) + 2 months for the rent (in advance). They will want some references (do you have anyone here who could help you with this?)and they will want proof of income.

The reason the agency doesn't reply to you is because you are not here. The best thing (if you still want to try to get a place on your own) is to wait once you are here and just go and see them (estate agents in the area you are interested in). Before anything ask them what documents they will need because there is no point on going and see places if you are not going to be accepted.

Also ask them what "bills" are included (in my area the bills are not usually included).
Ask them if those bills are included:
-Council taxes (usually the tenant pays for this)
-Electricity / Gas
- Water (for me it is around £280/year
- TV license
- Insurance

Internet broadband & phone & cable tv cost around £45/month
Food, if you are really careful maybe £30/week
I found this on the Internet :
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tickets ... -adult.asp
It looks like a bus pass for a week will be £14.00

Hope this helps
