Mortgage Info for Canadian

Post Thu Dec 13, 2007 10:46 am

Hi everyone,

My husband is currently in the process of applying for his permanent residence status in the United States.

He has his EAD (work authorization) and we have our interview next week. We are trying to get a mortgage and the underwriters seem to be confused because he isn't here on a work VISA.

Does anyone have advice or suggestions?

Thank you!

I'm a permanent resident of the USA as well. When we got our mortgage, I didn't go on the loan, just on the title. So they just went on my wifes credit. I was not (and still not) working so really no reason for me to go on the actual mortgage documents. Not sure if that pertains to you or not,but both spouses don't have to be on the mortgage.

What is your husband's status in the US? Did he come here on a marriage based visa (K1 or K3) or as a tourist and then stayed and got married?
