Hi all,

I am Canadian under TN and plan to go back Canada recently since contract will be end soon. I plan to imp my car back to Canada. I bought this new car in US a year ago. Just don't want to sell it, it might loss more $$ if I doing that.

Can I get some "exemption" if I want to drive it back to US after importing(just think about if I got another job offer in US again after I go back Canada).

It is really tough time to me based on my situation. Hard to get job offer . think more about if I should sell my car before I go back Canada.

BTW, can anyone give me some advice which city I should go, Vancourver or Toronto. I am IT guy.

Thanks!

ow have fun with that one . importation to can. is a royal pain in the ass . it really depends if your car is worth the trouble - if it is a high end luxury vehicle then yes ( a brand new beamer runs a good 5k less in states than in canada) , however if it is just a commuter then its not even remotely worth the trouble .The main issue is presenting the local motorized veh. ministry with a slew of documents about recalls , emissions and all the other jazz . all those docs have to be dealer or company signed . If you want more details i'll find you a step by step howto . My dad actually pulled off this feat when he bought a car from the company he works at.

IT u say . well TO is always a good choice . VAN aint bad either . depends what you want to do , and your qualifications .

if you've owned the car for one year or more, then it shouldn't be much of a hassle at all. Its included in your "personal goods" so duty free, and the only thing you may have to modify is day time running lights and dashboard guages (some US cars though now have DRLs so maybe only the guages).

There's ample info here in the forum if you search for "importing car to Canada", someone asks about it at least twice a week.
