Hi All,

For anyone who has visited/worked in Oz, I need your help! I'm relocating to Australia for work purposes and my employer said I have a choice of Sydney or Melbourne. I have not been to Australia so I don't know the pros and cons of each city. I've been living in Dublin for the past 2 years and every Irish person and their dog has been to Australia at some point but very person I ask says they loved them both.

I like to go out and have fun but I hate over-crowded, traffic-congested cities (anyone who has been to Dublin knows what it's like here!) Is there a huge difference between them as far as culture and things to do? I don't want to be bored and I want to go out for the craic with loads of other young people - I'll miss Dublin so much!

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks so much!

Charlene

Can't answer your question, but you'll find more info here:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54

While on that page, find the part that says "Search this forum". It's on one of the blue bars on the right side. If you search Melbourne, and then Sydney you should get lots of info. Or even Melbourne and Sydney together.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Pnut girl,

I posted a message for you last night but it doesn't seem to have gone through. What a drag.

I've lived in Melbourne and Sydney.

Here's the deal:

Melbourne - bars, arts, sports, bookshops, good shopping, easy to get around, more relaxed living style.

Sydney - beautiful harbour and beaches, big pubs, beautiful people, bling, rather hectic, great warm weather.

Someone once said Sydney was like LA of Oz and Melbourne is the San Fransisco of Australia. That's pretty apt.
