Hi All!

New here and just wondering about my move back home in October.

I have been running a recording and design studio down here in the US (small scale) and have recording equipment along with several computer systems to bring back home. Most of it is over 2 years old and some of it I have receipts for and some not.

I'd like to fly home and declare my intention to permanently move back to Canada (that's what I'm told I have to do), but I'd like my stuff to be shipped to me at a later date when I have a place I've settled in to. It might be a few months before that happens.

Any ideas where I could find out how I can do this? I read something about 'goods to follow' or something like that. But not sure what forms I need, if I will need a customs broker, what sort of evidence I'll need that I was in the US etc.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

Here's the Canada Border Services website with info about moving back to Canada

All the stuff in your suitcase you declare on CBSA Form B4. All the stuff that will be following you declare at the same time on Form B4A. Accuracy is the key, once you've come in you can't do it again.

Make sure everything on the Form B4A matches any packing list the removal company uses.

Reba and Steven!

Thank you for this info.

A little wrinkle in the plans I just found out about. I will have to go to Kenya for 3 months before technically 'moving back'. My plan is to store my household items here in the US with a friend, go to Kenya from Toronto, and then come back to Toronto get a permanent place and send for my household goods.

I will not yet know who the shipper is for my household stuff and I see on the B4 it asks the shipper, who will be unknown at that time. Can I leave that out and tell the border official that I will be sending for my household stuff in 3-4 months after I return from Kenya?

Should I just wait, go home to Canada then Kenya, then go back to the US and re-enter with my declaration that I am intending to re-settle then?

A big confusing, I know.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You put all the stuff to follow on Form B4A, the shipper isn't important, on the B4 you just put yourself.
