moving back to Canada...buy a car in USA first?

Moving back to Canada from Texas. I have an old civic that i'm going to sell and just get a new car in Canada. I figure it's not worth buying a car in Texas, because of the long drive to Canada, and because I don't want to deal with warranty issues back home. Besides the price differences don't seem to be that much.

Or am I wrong? Anything I should be looking at in terms of warranty will be good in Canada and there is a large price dif?

It's not a smart move unless you save a fair bit because you have to get the car altered to Canadian spec to make it legal plus because it's new it will be subject to duties and GST etc.

Although having said that my view for a long time has been that if you buy a US car and convert it to Canadian spec it has value both in Canada and the US so it's easier to sell, because it doesn't take much to switch the fuses over for the headlights. If you buy a car in Canada, they're usually worth much less in the US because no-one in the US wants a car with a metric odometer and speedometer.
