Moving Back to Canada with Pregnant Wife

Post Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:14 pm

Hi There,

My wife and I currently live in the states. We have been here for approx. 2 years. We are non-residents in Ontario.

My wife is pregnant and we are looking into moving back to Ontario. We looked into re-establishing residency and it now takes 5 months. Does anyone know of any insurance providers that cover pregnancies/giving birth in Ontario? Most policies we have seen exclude an existing pregnancy at the time the policy is effective.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The waiting period for ON is 3 months not 5.

However, OHIP is incorrect in their interpretation of the Federal law, and returning citizens are entitled to immediate health coverage (the 3 months applies to migrants from other provinces, who remain covered for those 3 months in their old ).

But that's little comfort to you.

The only other suggestion I would have is to move to any other province, which accepts you immediately, or stay in US under your current coverage (ie. don't quit your job).
