moving by yourself

Post Mon Mar 07, 2005 6:51 am

Hi,
I'm a Canadian living abroad for about 4 years now. I'm currently in Germany and want to move back to Canada in the summer. I've got some household stuff, lots of books, etc, and I'm wondering if it's possible to move oneself rather than pay $5000 for someone else to do it. I've heard people talking about port-to-port freight forwarding. Does anyone have any experience with this? How about actually travelling by boot with one's stuff? I have the time, a couple of weeks, to do this, and would actually enjoy doing the trip this way. If anyone's got any tips, I'd be grateful if you'd share them. Thanks
peter

sorry, meant "travelling by boat;" looks like I've been abroad a little too long. :)

depending how much you've got, the ship you're on may just let you do it as extra baggage and charge you per box, or suitcase or however you pack it. Airlines do that, if its not too much stuff.

Thanks for your reply. I found a line that takes passengers- have to see if they'll take someone along with their personal effects.
