Moving entire family over to Northern Ireland...

Postby sumayatara » Tue Jul 31, 2007 4:44 pm

for love of course!

I'm looking for any info that is specific to moving (three!) children overseas ie: a sort of "check-list" of all the considerations. They are eligible for UK passports through their dad and I will hopefully get mine eventually through my soon-to-be husband.

Any help, no matter how small, links, tips etc. greatly appreciated. I am in inital planning stage now with an eye to move this time next year (in time for new school year).

Thanks,
Sumaya

Hi sumayatara,
I am making a similar move, except
with two children and we are moving
to England. This will be in June
2008 in time for school. I think this
will give us enough time to find:
accommodation, work, schools. These
are the three biggies. I'm not certain
about Ireland, but in England the
schools want you to register your
children as early as possible. I will
be working on a checklist and will
send one when it's done. My first
item was to get passports for everyone.
I will also want to get everyone
vaccinated and dental work done (poor
Dentistry in UK). Good luck!

I used to live in Northern Ireland and loved the place! I am not living there now, but was too homesick, so I made a little website about it. It is mainly tourist information but you might find it helpful. I am not selling anything, by the way

One word about shcools: You will find that in Northern Ireland there are three kinds of schools - protestant, catholic and integrated : 40 % protestant, 40% catholic and 10 % other.

I think you will like it there. We had a young family and we found Northern Ireland very child friendly and the locals are used to big families and love children.

All the best with your move,

Esther
