Oh, also, we began this journey in Washington state, where the motto is "if your car spends the night in WA, it must be tagged in WA". Not literal of course, but we were scolded at renewal time for not changing our DLs and told to do it before we came back, and our car was tagged on the windshield with a notice to comply. So we imported it, tagged it, changed our DLs and so the Ontario tags and DLs are long gone.

I would be interested in a definitive answer as well, when I first came down I worked in North Carolina. I did the NCDOT road test and medical and was allowed to drive on my Ontario DL. I was considered a 'temporary worker' on my TN, therefore not 'compelled'(per the DMV and an inquiry at the Police Department) to obtain a NC DL. In Kentucky I obtained a KY DL that expired the same day as my visa, but I was told as it was a Commonwealth, they had different rules than other states. Tennessee has suspended the 'Driving Certificate' program at this time, and the DL is only for LPR's and U.S. citizens. The rock and the hard place theory at it's best. What does a TN employee do? In all three states I have driven company vehicles as a TN employee, as have the licenced H2-B's which worked seasonally.

What about bringing my kids over (15 and 16 year old) can they go to school and get a part time job? What documents (Visas) will my wife and kids need? Can I buy a house?

Your kids can go to school on TD Visas, but they cannot work. Your wife would come in as a TD as well unless she qualified for a TN on her own merit. It seemed at one point I had read TD visas were available for dependents up to the age of 21, but last week when I was at the border for my TN, the officer told me they only issue them up to age 18.
