Moving house contents to USA

Post Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:05 pm

Hello all. Haven't posted here in a while. L1A and L2 Visas were secured nicely (and I have to say, painlessly. <3 that particular border guard!)

Now we are at the stage of buying a home in the US and setting up house. For those who have done it successfully, did you use a moving company? If so, who? My dh thinks he can Uhaul it accross the border (to which I completely disagree). What kind of a process is it to bring your funiture and persoanl items accross the border?

Also, we have cats. I have read online what they need. Is it a fairly simple process of reviewing theri immunizations and vet's certificate of health? Or????

Glad to hear...it's makes me less nervous lol.

I will be applying for my L1A in the coming weeks and hope the process goes smoothly. Do you mind telling me how the process went? Did you have to go through an interviews? if so what kind of questions did they ask?

I've been told by some people that they usually just take your file process it and call you back to get your passport back and tell you you're all set.

Can you give me some details?:)

Hello
When we moved to the states about ten years ago,i used atlas moving co. We had a four bed room kitchen ,living ,dinning rms plus apt basement .we had eveything packed they showed up (2 men )loaded eveything in about 4 hrs!
went from onatrio to S carolina ,got down there in about 4 days.
only thing i would do differnt is keep your GARBAGE (stuff you really wont use anymore ) they charge you by the weight of your content
cost me around $6000.00 i think

I used U-haul back in 2004 to move from NS to the DC area. Too easy! When moving with U-haul--one has to ensure they look over their truck before accepting it! I never had a problem and was a good experience!

I know others have used U-pack----they drop off the container at ur house--You load it up----they come by and pick it up and move it to the USA---you unload it!
