Moving & Living in Ajijic and surrounding area

Post Sat Mar 15, 2008 11:35 am

Hello:
I'm retired and I have recently visited Ajijic. I found the village and surrounding area quite appealing. The climate is very easy to take also. I was only there for a very short period and would like some imput from fellow Canadians in the area. I am hoping someone will be able to answer some questions I have about whether it is advantagious for me to give up my Canadian residency and move down there and advise as to what steps are involved.
I currently winter in Arizona which is great but where I am it still can get chilly in evenings however Ontario, I understand is still getting some pretty bad winter storms to date, so I should consider myself lucky.

Hi there - I was looking into an extended stay in Lake Chapala and have not spoken with anyone (other than a realtor) who has been there. What was it really like? Is it worth a look and have you been to other parts of Mexico before? I'd like to hear from you.

Give Up Canadian Residency & Move to Mexico?

Post Tue Oct 28, 2008 9:48 am

I'm an American, so I can't answer your question directly about giving up Canadian residency & moving to Mexico but, I can refer you to someone that is knowledgeable and can answer the question.

His name is Reg Cyr, a Toronto-based financial advisor who has been counseling Canadians about relocating to Mexico for many years.

You can reach him through his website: Google "tio corp inc" mexico

Ajijic

Post Fri Nov 21, 2008 1:07 pm

We have decided to re-visit Ajijic this year for a longer stay this time. We have decided on 2 months maybe 3 if we can keep the place we have reserved. This year again is to find out if we are going to like it there for longer periods of time. We still have a lot of questions regarding health care, vehicles, residency.
I know when we drove down last year the tolls cost more than the gas. Wish there were more roads to choose from. It takes us 2 3/4 days to get to Ajijc from Nogales. Long days, long ways.
Thank you to the people who gave info.
Will Write more later
