Moving to Bangalore, India

Post Fri Mar 14, 2003 5:05 am

We're considering moving to Bangalore, India and would like to chat with some Canadians who are living in India. We're from Toronto, but have lived in Kenya and Germany. My husband would be doing research at the National Center for Biological Sciences, and I will be at home with our 2 yr old son, and will be having baby #2 in September. Does anyone know of other online resources that would be of use in determining what a stay-at-home-mom's life would be like there?
Thanks, Melanie

Hi Melanie,

I hope I'm allowed to use this forum as a non-Canadian ...

I found your posting via a web-search re. Bangalore as we too are thinking about going there due to a nice job-offer I've received. I was wondering whether you had managed to find any useful information regarding life in bangalore as a foreigner since your posting? If so, I'd be interested to learn about your sources!

We're a German family of four, we've been living in Taiwan for the last 7 years where both our kids (3 & 2) were born, and are trying to decide whether to take the B'lore offer or not ...

Thanks, all the best! Maybe see you there ...

Help in India

Post Wed Feb 18, 2004 1:33 am

Hi Melanie, and all!

I've just recently moved to Delhi with my company and have yet to find any fantastic resources. Try http://www.indax.com/index1.html for a mix of information. Otherwise I've been relying on a variety of books and reference tools from the Canadian Embassy: http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/new-delhi/menu-en.asp

I'm happy to try and answer any other questions you may have. I travel for work to Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai quite regularly as well.

Namaste,

Susan

Bangalore is a great place to live!

I lived in Bangalore for a few years and I loved it. It is quite easy to meet people and there is a lot to do. I was teaching at the Canadian International School there, and I know that the "Moms" were very active and busy with all kinds of things. They have a morning preschool for 3 year olds, if your child is old enough. There is an overseas women's club that isn't for everyone, but apparently there are lots of committees and activities to get involved in. (The climate is the best in India too.)
