For places to live check here:
http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rs ... &t=ren&cu=There are tabs at the top for regular rentals or for shared rentals (roomates). The majority of rentals you will find on this site because real estate agents are generally used to manage rentals (unlike Canada). Once you get here you might also find infomration on campus from flyers or possibly a housing registry or something. You can always stay in a hostel if needed for the first week or so.
For jobs I would check here:
www.seek.com.auMost jobs are advertised there, I would also check your local paper if there is one once you arrive.
You've come to the right place for hockey info! There is a league here with 4 main divisions that vary in skill. Div 1 is the best and it is the only league where contact is allowed. Div 2 is very good and generally has quite a few Canadians in it. Div 3 is also pretty good and there are some people in there that are capable of playing up in Div 2 but chose not to for whatever reason, there are also some people who can't/shouldn't play up in Div 2. Then there's Div 4 which is strictly development for new players, so my guess is you wouldn't be there.
My team last year was in Div 3 but about half of them moved up to Div 2. So if you wanted to play Div 2 I could give you their email address. I should also note that Div 1 & 2 is technically a combined division so if you don't want to paly against or with the Div 1's then Div 3 might be a better choice.
Anyway, there are 3 rinks in the Brisbane area. There are rinks in Acacia Ridge (south of the river) and one in Boondall (north of the river).
http://www.iceworld.com.au/There's also another rink on the Gold Coast in Bundall (1 hour south).
http://www.goldcoasticehockey.com/Here's the main page here. There's not much info on there, last year they put all the stats and stuff on there but lately there hasn't bee anything.
http://www.ihq.org.au/There's also drop in hockey every Wednesday night. You pay about $15 I think each time and you also have to be registered for the year (about $200). If you want contact info on drop in hockey I can probably find it for you. But for now here's a link for the southern stars club. Everyone has to be registered with 1 club but you can play with any team you like.

The last thing I want to mention is you should make sure you bring all your equipment you need and I would also replace anything that will need it soon. Equipment is a lot more expensive here and that includes everything from tape to sticks. So I'd bring a bunch of tape along with you too if you can.
You can get an idea of prices here:
http://www.armoursmith.com.au/Also, if you have skates with T-blades stock up again. You won't find them here although you might be able to order them from overeseas.
