Sorry, I forgot to mention that there is no vilolence here at all. It is basically a laid back place.

There is an American and British school here for your boys.

Be advised that there is no Canadian Embassy. You must either go to the Consulate in Dubai, the Embassy in Abu Dhabi or Kuwait.

You do not require a visa to enter the U.A.E, you automatically get a 30 day visa stamped in your passport. Entry into Kuwait or Bahrain will cost you approx $15 U.S..

Moving to Doha

I, too, am considering a move to Doha with my family. I guess my immediate questions are:

How does the standard of living compare with, say, Ottawa? Is it more or less expensive?
How much to people ship over from Canada when they first move? Is it expensive?
Anyone take a family pet?
Can anyone comment of villa life? ( I assume it is within a compound)

Thanks in advance

Moving to Doha

Hi all,

I am a canadian, who moved from Calgary to south Texas, and now it looks like my boyfriend may take a job in Doha. I am an electrical engineer, with a project management background, so I am trying to find a job there too as we are not yet married.

Questions I have are:

Any tips on Electricity Companies or Oil companies hiring Canadians??

Can my boyfriend sponsor me to come over if we aren't married? If not, what would you suggest I do to visit and then look for work-how do I get a visitor visa, for how long can I stay, how long must I leave before I can come back on a new visa, etc.

This site is a lifesaver! We are stressed out about what to do!

Thanks,

Jana
