Moving to London Possibly..some questions first though

Post Mon Jul 12, 2004 12:30 am

Hello everyone,

I'm so glad I found this site!!! What a wonderful idea to have a forum like this.

My hubby and I are thinking of moving to London in a few years and we want to plan this out right.

Because I work in the travel insurance industry I am fairly certain I will be able to get a position there with one of our affliates but my hubby may have a harder time as he is in factory work right now. My first question is f he were to go back to school for further training while we're still in Canada what is the best field that he would be able to find a job over there fairly easy.

Second is that I'm a landed immigrant in Canada. I'm originally from the U.S.. Would getting my Canadian Citizenship make it easier for me to make the move or will it really matter?

Thanks in advance,
Fiona:)

Hi Fiona

Guys like plumbers, electricians and general builders make a good living in the UK, though you would need to check on how interchangeable Canadian and UK qualifications are - I'm sure your husband wouldn't want to have to study and qualify twice!

Your husband might be able to find factory work in the UK. It just depends what kind, and whether you go to an area with a demand for his particular skills.

For your questions over the various ways you can enter and work in the UK, a good starting point might be: http://www.britainincanada.org/Visa/index.htm

Good luck!
