Moving to Melbourne

Post Sun Mar 09, 2008 6:16 am

Hello,

I am Canadian, currently living in the UK. My husband (is a Brit but also has an Australian passport)and I just bought a house in Point Cook, just outside of Melbourne. It's not built yet so we will be moving in about a year and a half. After being in the UK for 3 years I am looking forward to going back to a high standard of living (where houses aren't attached to each other)!

We are a young couple with no children and I am looking make some connections with some of you before we move, so that I can have someone to ask questions to etc. In return I will owe you a few drinks and will repay you once I arrive in Aus.

What's your opinions of Australia? How are you all liking it (especially the Melbourne area).

Thank you in advance,

Kirstyn

Hi,

I'm not in Melbourne but I've lived in Australia for almost a year now. I love it here and I find it's fairly similar to Canada.

You might not find too many Canadians on here unfortunately. I'd check out the Canadian Club of Victoria: http://www.canadaclub-vic.org.au/

You can probably find some Canadians groups of clubs on www.meetups.com

You can also find lots of people from the UK on here:

Good luck with the move.

I moved here (just outside Melbourne) from Vancouver,Canada just over 6 months ago. The adjustment has been harder then I thought, meeting people etc. But if you have moved from Canada to the UK I am sure you are familiar with all that.
I like it here though :) The weather is GREAT, the beaches are beautiful & there are ski mountains within a 2 hour drive. I am here if you have any questions :) I will try to answer. Congrats on the house purchase!

My girlfriend and I just bought a house in Melbourne's west (Truganina), so I'll let you know how it goes.

We have lived in Docklands for 2 years and have enjoyed it. Alot of great places to see and visit within 2 hours. The summers are fantastic in Melbourne. It gets hot, but not humid, so +35 is still somewhat tolerable. The winters are tolerable. I've cycled on the coldest day of the year each year we have been here. It can get windy.

Are all of you still in Aus? It's taken almost 3 years but I'm finally applying for jobs in the Melbourne area. Better late than never I suppose, plus I lost my username and password for this account but found it now!

I may not be aware of Canadians on here unfortunately. But I found so many International Moving Companies which may help us in moving our furniture with ultimate care

You can find out one among them the beast like movers global

Never heard of them. I did some research, they don't operate from Canada.

Not sure how you can say you have never lived in Australia but you love it here? One contradicts the other. I can tell that English is not your forte.

Good try on spamming the site, 'Sheelagh'.

Part of the reason for the popularity of this energetic and rapidly expanding city lies deeply in Melbourne’s multicultural roots which it prides itself on and also on its vibrancy and spirit as a young and happening destination. Living in Melbourne Australia, expatriates find a vivacious pace of life, a high standard of living and a wealth of social and cultural experiences to delight in.

Hi,

I've been living in Melbourne for the last year and am originally from Vancouver. My partner is Aussie and he and I moved over together. I live in the Bayside area, so a bit far from Point Cook, but I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. I had another Canadian friend already established in Melbourne when I arrived and he was a godsend.

Good luck!
