Moving to oz/nz

Post Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:06 am

hey!
i just got my b.a. but dont have much work experience. how do they rate all that? can u say u have work experience?
i wanna make the move to oceania so what are my best options? getting a 1yr work visa to australia and try to make something happen there? then when that expires go to nz for a bit and then back to oz?i figure a couple of years there and id have my permanent status. what do yall think? is there a better way? i dont really have much work experience here so i'd be same starting off anywhere, and i guess its better to start there if thats where i wanna live.

You could get the 1 year visa to Australia, get a job here and work REALLY hard at it so hopefully they're willing to sponsor you. The skilled immigrations do require you to have work experience in Australia, but I would look into New Zealand if I were you because I believe it's easier to get in there. You might be able to get a job with a company that has offices in Australia and get a transfer over (on sponsorship) eventually, if that's what you want. Or you might love New Zealand and want to stay there.

But I think if you want to come straight to Australia the only option will be the working holiday visa and then trying to get a sponsored position once you're here, other than staying in Canada and getting more work experience first. Or get a job in Canada with a multinational company and try to get them to transfer you to Australia.

Good luck!

hey char,

thx for the reply. i was also reading about the 1 yr work visa, and how i can extend it for another yr if i pick fruit for 3 months in the outback. heh. and then there's new zealand, so i could be there for a couple of good years before i had to leave. so i guess go to oceania and work it out therethere. how does the sponsorship thing work. can someone explain how to do it successfully? whats the cost of it to the company or conditions? what if i pull a connection, someone who has a company there?

what about the Regional Sponsored Visa? how does that work? would it be easier to get it done in 2 years in darwin or alice springs than trying for the perm visa in the other big cities? i've got a b.a. in entrepreneurship from a EU college.
