Moving to Slovakia

Hi There,

I'll be moving to Slovakia in July, and after reading the latest addition of Lonely Planet, it seems as if Slovakia is a very nice place to visit; however, they really don’t say much about what it is like to actually live there.

Also, does anyone know of a really good vegan restaurant, in/around Nitra or am I simply out of luck?????

Is there something you wish you would have known about Slovakia prior to arriving? Is there something you wish you would have brought from home?

I don't have much experience in Slovakia but what I do know is that there are such opposites when comparing larger cities and the rural parts.

Bratislava is an amazing city. It clearly has Communist history in it's architecture and culture but I was amazed at how 'modern' it is. there was one mall that could have easily been one of the larger malls back in Canada. Cost of things is a bit steep but you'll get used to that in any place in Europe.

Good luck on the move and don't worry about the things you wish you would have brought. There is always going to be something. If you like to bake, check supplies out (brown sugar). Otherwise you adapt. Not sure what kind of International community there is in the Bratislava area. And my advise, by any electronics (laptop, cameras, mp3 players and such) in Canada before coming over to Europe.
