Moving to teh UK to work next year and need some more advice

Post Sat Sep 20, 2008 12:05 pm

Hello, I have some questions and I hoped they could be answered. I plan on living in the UK next year to work. I am a plumber and I have a few friends over there that are willing to help me. I may have an offer from employment next year from someone I know that runs a plumbing business but I was wondering which visa might be best suited to me. My plumbing ticket is recognized over there which is good. Who should I contact to explain my situation and ask about which visa would be right for me? Would worldbridge be able to help with that? I hope to be there by next summer. I also was wondering if I can reapply for the visa from the UK or if I have to come back to canada to do that when it expires. I eventually would like to get my permanent resident status and then eventually citizenship. Any help would be appreciated.

Could I just get a run of the mill work permit if I have a job offer?

The employer would have to apply for a work permit on your behalf.and have to prove that a qualified person from the entire EU couldn't be found.

Any UK-born grandparents?
Necessity is the mother of reinvention.

How exactly would an employer prove that no one in the EU is qualified?

Another thing. When the employer takes care of teh work permit, do I still have to apply for a visa?

a work permit gives you the right to work in the UK. You still need a work permit visa to enter the UK with that work permit. The High Commission will need an original Work Permit to be submitted with the visa application or it is an automatic refusal. no exceptions. Your employer will have to organise that work permit with the Home Office in the UK and then send it to you.
