Moving to the UK with no education

Post Sat Oct 20, 2007 1:01 pm

Hello all. I am currently a university student in Ottawa and I am really wanting to leave and work in the UK somewhere. However, I am not finished my degree. I'm kind of just looking to find myself and I plan on coming back and finishing someday but I was just thinking it would be nice to go somewhere and start new. Are they many job opportunities for "uneducated" (meaning without a degree) people. I wouldn't mind working with food if I had to, but I certainly don't want to move there and get a job at Macdonald's. You know what I mean? I just really need a change and I am looking at options. Thanks a lot guys!

I only have a high school diploma and I've had no trouble getting jobs :D Down where I am (Cornwall), there's loads of places looking for chefs and kitchen help :)

Before moving to the UK (to work) don't forget that you will need to apply for a visa (to be allowed to work) before coming to the UK.
I guess in your circumstances, the only visa is probably the working holidaymaker visa (available to 17-30 years old) this give you the right to come to the UK for up to 2 years and work a maximum of 1 year. Unless you have a parent or grand parent that is a British citizen (you could try for an ancestry visa).
