Hi everybody!

I'm in Southern Ontario right now, and considering a trip to the UK in the fall, and possibly a move next year.

My job is okay and will follow me when I move, however the part I'm interested in is the local music scenes. I was thinking about checking out living scenarios near Birmingham, due to its seemingly central proximity to everything (meaning, I could get out and play at night in many places).

Is anyone on the board a musician? Could they share any advice on places to check out, messageboards for UK musicians (aside from Craigslist), etc?

Thanks in advance.

This isn't going to be very helpful since I'm in Scotland and haven't lived here for very long, but I do know of one loose musical collective with members from London, Reading, and Birmingham: doubledotdash?!. (Their homepage is usually here, except at the moment it's down for some reason.) I haven't made it to any of their shows yet, but I know two of the group-members, and it seems as if they're totally willing to welcome new interested people. As I recall, their focus used to be electronic/experimental material, but that may have changed a bit recently.

I am a professional musician/songwriter living in Manchester, and I can tell you that there are some significant advantages and disadvantages to making a move here to work as a musical artist. Go to my website, then contact me directly if you'd like to know more. I've been here almost 9 months, just met up with an American songwriter who has been here 1.5 years. We're swapping notes now.
