My husband my son and myself would like to move to the u.k.

We are a couple living in canada with minimal debt mainly student loans and we would like to move to england, not london but a small area just to get out off the big town life we are looking for simple jobs my husband has 7 years roofing experience and i have multiple work skills we are looking for just a quiet life and would like to kknow what costs we would have and what kind of money we should save to move there and also how hard it is for a canadian to assume residency in the u.k. for a period of between 1-5 years? Please if anyone has any answers let me know.
If it helps my husbands grandparents were born in the u.k. but he was adopted and knows nothing of his blood ties except that they originated from the u.k in the late 1800 early 1900

Hi there,

You can apply for an Ancestry Visa and the adoption is no problem; just make sure your husband has valid long form birth certificates for the qualifying parent and grandparent (adopted or not). You and your son will apply as dependants but you will each have to have separate applications (however your son can do on your husbands').

Some more info on the Ancestry Visa can be found here:

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply ... ukancestry
http://ukincanada.fco.gov.uk/resources/ ... ukancestry

Just don't be confused on VAF2 portion, as this is the old method of downloading and completing the application- now everything must be done online here:

http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/

Currently it's $431 per person plus a $15 courier fee. Be prepared to attend a VAC (Visa Application Centre) iin Halifax, Ottawa (340 Albert Street), Toronto (Eaton Centre, 25th floor), Edmonton or Vancouver to give your biometrics (fingerprints), a photo and your completed application for processing.

Check my other posts in the Immigration Section or send me a PM if you need help.

Good luck!
