my situation - US work visa, which one?

Post Mon Apr 06, 2009 5:55 pm

Hi guys, my situation is a little bit different than usual. I am a Canadian citizen born overseas ( Brazil ), because my father is Canadian. I went to university there and have completed a bachelor's degree of comunication with focus on marketing and advertising. I came to the USA with a Canadian passaport to do a postgraduate certificate at NYU. I would like to know, if I get a job offer, what kind of visa do I need to apply for? Actually I think business executives (like marketing analysts) are not in the NAFTA list, so I really don't know what is the easiest way to get a work permit here. I don't mind paying/taking responsability for that instead of the company doing that for me.

Are you on F-1? If so you can apply for an EAD for optional practical training, file an I-765 application. It's valid for a year.

Marketing and public relations jobs are hard to get work authorization for, H-1B is probably the most suitable but H-1B is hard to get because of the quota.
Steve.
