Here is a very relevant url regarding start and end dates:

Should the TN Visa Petition letter include the starting date

I recommend you list both anyway since some inspectors have been so meticulously picky about this even if technically unjustified and incorrect. Your objective is getting a TN not refused entry. You might be wise to include it given the number of potential TN beneficiaries being denied due to lack of a start/end date on the petitioning letter, particularly on the West Coast including Blaine Truck and Peace Arch crossings.

As that thread showed, no dates are required, and there is no evidence that a "number" of TNs are being denied because of this.

However, now that TNs are 3-year, losing a few days at the end because you put a start date is not such a big deal anymore.

Regardless, it would appear that the end date is irrelevant to CBP these days, as they are -- again against regulation -- cutting TN duration to coincide with passport validity, making the putting of an end date even more irrelevant.

Current dated letter, "starting immediately", and "for a period not to exceed three years". CBP will pull a number out of their a$$es to stamp on the i-94.

I wrote the dates like this: "Starting June 13th 2011 not exceeding 3 years". And just as an update, I am now on my FOURTH TN Visa and I haven't even been living in the US for a year, and haven't had any problems at the border. In fact they know me by name now!

This was SO helpful! I am an Industrial Designer about to (potentially) land an employment offer. This post was absolutely AMAZING. I really appreciate it! Does anyone know, however, the additional work that is required if I plan to drive my car across the border?

Many thanks!
