There are a number of things that can possibly be done but I agree with Dremani, you'll need to be more specific about what she lost.

In order to get back to Canada, she's going to need something. If she's in trouble in the US, her first stop should be the nearest consulate. If she explains that she's lost her ID, they may be able to help. Does she have copies or at least records of passport number, drivers liceance, SIN number & old provincial health care number? If she has these numbers and possibly photocopies, it will make her life a lot easier when explaining her situation to authorities.

Your roll in this would be to help her obtain any record you can of her existence in Canada. Again, what you need will depend entirely on what she lost.

Good luck.

She can get a new birthcertificate by going to the Provincial registrar's website for the province where she was born.

Once she has that she can apply for a new passport.

Do her children have Canadian passports?

They are eligible likely for dual citizenship. She should also apply for Canadian passports for her kids. She'll need their registration of birth abroad in order to get them.

Unless the child was born before 1977, there is no "registration of birth abroad" anymore. One merely applies for Cdn citizenship card for the child, presenting their birth certifcate and proof of parent's citizenship.
It takes awhile, and can be dealt with later.

Why, Reba? Registrations still exist, and for people in their 30's that is what they have, and they are still valid.

It's simply that for children that would still be dependent on their parents, like those in this thread, registration would not be available

CIC does indeed mention this:
