Need desperate help with process!! Please read

Hey all... I got laid off on Mar 18th and am on H1B. Since i was out of status, i left the US on Mar 29th but haven't turned anything (I95) in whilst coming back to Canada as i didn't know i had to. But i have the flight info for Mar 29th saying that i left US on that day.

I actually came back to Canada for some interviews that I have scheduled in Toronto but I own a house back in the states which i need to rent and pack up all my stuff. I am planning to take a flight back to the US as a tourist and tell the immigration officer that I came to Canada since i was out of status, I had a few interviews in Canada (for which i have the emails for), my parents live here, i've opened a bank account here, and have a return ticket in three weeks, so I just need to wrap up, rent my house (for which i have a mortgage statement) and come back to Canada.

Anyone find anything wrong in my understanding of the process and can offer advice? Can anyone poke any holes in my plan and tell me if I'm at risk of being turned away or if i'm doing something wrong?

Reba, you're knowledge of this is great so any advice would be super helpful.
