Need help for TN application

Post Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:43 pm

I just found this forum and I am very impressed with the scope and knowledge of the participants.

Here are my questions.

I am a dentist presently living and working in Canada. I have been offered a part time position at a US dental school as an unpaid instructor. I want the job to allow me to improve my teaching skills and to network with other professional educators in my field as I run an education program in Canada that does pay me. Can I get a TN visa for an unpaid position?

I would like to get an apartment in the US for the days I will be working there but maintain a permanent residence in Canada. I was told that I need a TN visa to legally enter the US as I am not a visitor if I am working, as well, I need it to be able to move furniture across the border. What does the letter from my employer need to state to get a TN visa?

I will be travelling across the border by car 2 to 3 times a week. What documentation do I need to keep with me to satisfy CPB of my situation?

Thanks for any answers

TN for unpaid work is unlikely. "volunteering" is not covered under TN.

You may enter as a B1 business visitor, and you can get an appartment (just like you can buy a cottgae in US as a visitor).

You need to consult an immigration service; this is a travel site.
