NEED HELP PLEASE, ME AND WIFE BOTH CANADIAN

Postby dcatindig » Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:50 am

HI,

I am a canadian citizen working in Columbus, Ohio. I work under TN as a Scientific Technologist. My soon to be wife graduated University with a Bachelors in Political Science as her major and a minor in Socialogy. She wants to be an elementary school teacher but is open to any other suggestions. We are planning on her enrolling in school here to get her ohio state teachers licence but we are concerned that she still will not be able to work here. I am not sure if a degree in political science would qualify her under TN for any job title.... She is very open to working in any industry with preference to education. If anyone has any ideas on how a woman with a degree in political science can get a job in the us we would love the help.

Take a look at the NAFTA Professional Job Series list: http://www.globallawcenters.com/tn_job_list.php

Elementary/secondary school teachers are not on the list (college instructors are, however).

H-1B is quota exempt for "academic institutions" which means post-high school.

H-1B requires a degree (or 12 years experience) and the job must require it.

Not that I recommend H-1B because TN-1 is simpler, but the point is that she should be looking for some sort of academic position with a university, most likely.
