Need new TN if changing jobs within same company?

Hey,

I currently work at a university in New York. I was wondering if I required a new TN Visa if i were to change departments. If i worked for Department X and wanted to switch to Department Y. would i need to go back to the border and reapply for a new TN?

I am currently working with a TN visa.

Is it the same job title/description? Salary? End date of contract? Same employer just different department? My guess is no need to renew if all is the same. And, my 2nd guess is it depends which officer you speak to. Opinions seems to vary from one to the next!

Does he have to tell someone about this change before he actually renew?

I do believe the job description is fairly similar, but the Manager and Supervisors are different and the department is different.

I do not really mind to work it out till next year and then renew it again, but I am wondering if I am doing anything that could jeapardize my status to work in the USA.

Any suggestions on whether I should renew my visa?
