Need straightening out....

Post Wed Mar 29, 2006 2:54 pm

Hi,
I am new to the forum, I have been in the Uk for almost 6 years now, and think I may be becoming faux english (not madonna style), I have forgotten what poutine tastes like, am more interested in the FA cup than the Stanley, say really twee things (like twee)and think it's in my best interests to remind myself of who I am...

I live in Cheshire (knutsford, just south of Manchester), and would love to just hang out some night with Canadians and find out whats happening with music (love Arcade Fire, the Hip, etc), hockey, politics etc...

Would any one be up for that?

M :?

I go to Knutsford every morning!
:)

But I work in Northwhich and live in Wales.

My wife cooks the best tourtiere (proper ones, not just a meat pie), homemade cretons and ketchups this side of the atlantic, i usually have oreo cookies and caribou somewhere around the house and have loads of movies from Quebec.
Drop me a line.

You had me at the tourtiere....but the Oreos...last time I had them, I had to mortgage the house to buy from Selfridges.

Would be great to go for a pint sometime soon. Hope we can arrange something.

When was the last time you were back in Canada? And where is home in Canada. By the visions of tourtiere dancing through my head, I am assuming Quebec?

Thanks so much for the reply. I haven't really spoken to anyone Canadian (except family) for a really long time.

Cheers
M

hello mellybsimm,

You are not really far from me, I live in Stockport !! I work in Manchester city center...
I would not be really good to talk to you about Canadian music (never really been into it anymway) because I have been here for almost 6 years...
Could not say anything about FA cup or the Stanley cause I don't like sports (on TV)..
But I sometimes make some poutine at home (quite good and I have some REAL poutine gravy)...

Oh yes, I'm from Montreal (but I also lived in Sherbrooke, Jonquière, Richmond...)

In someways this is not a worry, it could just be that you are finally starting to adopt to the UK.
There are things you can do

www.maplemusic.com is great for Canadian music

www.cbc.ca has Canadian news and other things

If you are in London there is the Maple Leaf and of course most newspapers have an online edition.

Oh, and the Canada online shop is awesome as well.
long live the Canadian republic
vive la republic Canadienne

I've been in Knutsford a few times as it's not too far from where I am at the moment in Stockport, Manchester (about 30 mins on the train). I am 24 and have been living in the UK now for 9 months. Would definatley be up for a pint and a chat about sports etc... Let me know. Also for Joanne, where abouts in Stockport are ya?

Cheers guys.

Ok - I'm a newbie to this site and have posted about 5 messages today because my only true Canadian friend flew home this morning and it was all I could do to stop myself from hiding in her luggage! (just in case you saw my other messages and you were wondering why I've gone so message crazy!)

I've been here a little over 2 years and live in Didsbury. I would LOVE to meet up with people as I'm pretty homesick right now. So, drop me a line if you fancy a pint!!!
