Need US Boirder Advice

If we travel or live abroad, we usually come back to visit right? Here's a the place to meet other "re-pats" and Canadians who have returned.

Need US Boirder Advice

Post Wed Oct 27, 2010 5:37 pm

Hi All,

So I tried to cross over the board with my uncle today, to go into seattle, to the candian consulate general building cause he needs to renew his canadian visa for multiple entries.... we went at around 6:30 am, cause we need to be there before 10:00 am, and it takes 2.5hrs drive.

Anyways, they called us inside and we told them why we were going, but the lady kept saying that I was lying and she didn't believe me, she started to ask me where I worked and why I only had $70 American on me, later she searched my car and found my mom's phone that I haven't activated yet, and strait away told me I stole it, and that it was theft, I even told her that it was mine, her supervisor came in and they both went into the office and came out, the supervisor pretty much told us we weren't allowed to pass, cause his trained officer said we were lying, and weren't telling the truth, even though we were. She gave us a form that had both our names on it and a box checked that stated, denied entry into US, but the thing is, no finger prints, no pictures and not paper work that we signed, she however photocopied my passport, as I am a canadian citizen, but my uncle is not, but has a 10 year work visa. The supervisor stated, verbally only, that we were not allowed into us by boat air or land, but again, no paper work, except that one form(which we gave to the canadian border officer), and he stated he didn't know why not... no finger prints, and no pictures, just a photocopy on my passport.

After all that I'm wondering if I was actually denied access, or banned from the US, or was a one office offence, and she just didn't wanna let us pass, kind of confused and need to know if anyone could tell us if this sounds like an expidite or withdrawal or something completly single officer related.

Thanks in advance,
DEX

Your were denied entrey and it has been entered on the CBP database. You are not barred, but you are going to face extra scutiny each timne you try to cross.

You will need to provide LOTS of proof that (a) you live and intend to stay living in Canada, (b) what purpose you are going to US for and for EXACTLY how long, and (c) proof that you have enough money to last you the time you said you would stay.

It does not appear that you or your uncle were banned.

I assume they didn't buy your story about renewing Cdn visa, because he shoudl be renewing it by mail or at a Cdn office.

Since he is not Cdn, did he have a visa to enter US?

Thanks for your reply, and yes he has a US visa to enter, B1/B2, as for myself, will I be able to cross just like normal, like if I wanted to go 3 days after they turned me back, would I be able to cross, apart from bringing the extra Identification, and proving I'm staying in canada ??

I just wanna make sure that I'm not blocked from going into the US, cause me and my wife are suppose to goto Vegas for her late anni present near the end of Nov.

You have my answer: you will face extra scrutiny each time you cross. having a return ticket when you go to US next time will also help.

But if you are planning to drive... expect the worst.
